Call for Papers
History, Classics and Archaeology Graduate Research Symposium (GRS)
Date: Tuesday 11 December, 2018, 13h00 – 17h00
Location: Room 101, 30 Russell Square
Submission Deadline: Tuesday, 4 December 2018

HCA MPhil/PhD students are invited to present their work at the department Graduate Research Symposium (GRS). The GRS is a friendly and supportive environment to practice presentation skills, gain feedback from colleagues, and interact with students and faculty in the department.

The conveners are seeking papers in two submission categories:

1. Chapter Section or Conference Paper
A 20-minute presentation as part of a 2-3 paper panel followed by 10-15 minutes for questions. *Presenting at the GRS counts towards upgrade requirements.

2. Research Overview – First Year Doctoral Students
A 10-minute talk outlining the intended doctoral research as part of a 4 paper panel followed by 10-15 minutes for questions.

Proposals can be sent to Seán Newman ( and Caitlin Cunningham ( For 20-minute presentations, please include a paper title, thesis topic, supervisor’s name, and a 250-word (maximum) abstract. For 10-minute presentations, please include thesis topic, supervisor’s name, and a few sentences about your research. General questions and comments should also be sent to Seán and Caitlin.
