Annual Despotiko Lecture

The 2017 Despotiko lecture will take place at Birkbeck, Main Building, Room B36 on Tuesday 28 March, 6-8pm. This annual event was inaugurated in 2016 to mark the collaborative links between the Department of History, Classics and Archaeology and the archaeological excavations on the island of Despotiko in the Cyclades. The lecture will be delivered by the Director of the excavations, Dr. Yannos Kourayos from the Greek Ministry of Culture, and will present some of the spectacular recent discoveries made at the archaic sanctuary of Apollo. The lecture will be followed by refreshments.

The event is free and all BBK students are welcome – but registration is required: if you wish to attend please email Siân Green (
