Date and Time: Tuesday 7 March, 1:00 – 5.00pm
Room: Room 101, 30 Russell Square
Deadline: Monday 20 February 5pm
This is the second of the 2016-17 Graduate Research Symposia (GRS) for students in Birkbeck’s Department of History, Classics and Archaeology.
Doctoral students are invited to present their work in progress (which might be part of a chapter from your thesis or a presentation for a conference). Once again, there is also the opportunity for any new students – who would like to do so – to give a brief overview of their research topic. All are welcome to attend and discover more about the current research being produced in the department.
The time allotted to those presenting papers will be 20 minutes, followed by 10-15 minutes for questions and discussion at the end of each session of 2-3 papers.
New students who are giving an overview will have 10 minutes to talk about their research.
Powerpoint facilities will be available for use if needed, and tea and coffee will be provided.
The GRS is a helpful and encouraging environment in which to present, and presentations of papers are a requirement for upgrade. It is a great opportunity to gain experience in delivering a paper and receiving feedback in a supportive and friendly setting.
For students who are not presenting, the GRS is informative and useful for developing your thinking around future presentations. It is a chance to meet with fellow students and build up a sense of community, as well as getting a flavour of new and ongoing research. Please do come along: you will be very welcome.
Interested in presenting a paper? Please send your name, paper title, thesis topic, supervisor’s name and 250-300 word abstract to Rosalind Pulvermacher email@example.com and Sue Blunn firstname.lastname@example.org by Monday 20 February 5pm.
Are you a ‘new’ student and would like to speak about your research? Please send your name, thesis topic, supervisor’s name and a couple of sentences about your research to Rosalind Pulvermacher email@example.com and Sue Blunn firstname.lastname@example.org by Monday 20 February 5pm.
Please feel free to contact Rosalind and Sue if you have any queries.
The final GRS of this academic year will take place on Wednesday 7 June, 1 -5pm. The deadline for submissions will be Monday 22 May.
