Date: Wednesday 8 June 2016 Time: 1.00pm to 5.00pm Venue: Room 101, 30 Russell Square
Deadline for abstracts: Wednesday 25 May
The next Graduate Research Symposium for students in Birkbeck’s Department of History, Classics and Archaeology is scheduled for Wednesday 8 June. Doctoral students are invited to present a paper from their work in progress: this might be a chapter from your thesis, or a presentation for a conference. This is the final opportunity to give a paper this academic year; the next GRS will not be until December so please do seriously consider presenting!
The time allotted to presenters is approximately 20 minutes, followed by 10-15 minutes for questions and discussion at the end of each panel of 2-3 papers. Powerpoint facilities will be available for use if needed; and tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided.
Students have found these events a very helpful and encouraging environment in which to present, and presentations at this event count towards upgrade requirements. The day represents an excellent opportunity for students to gain experience delivering a paper and to receive feedback in a relaxed and supportive setting.
For students who are not presenting, the day is a popular event on the department calendar. Students find it informative and useful in developing their own ideas and approaches, as well as a great opportunity to discover more about the research being produced in the department. We very much encourage you to attend.
Interested in presenting a paper? Please send your name, paper title, thesis topic, supervisor’s name and 250-300 word abstract to Sue Blunn email@example.com (and copy in Rosalind Pulvermacher firstname.lastname@example.org ) by the end of the day on Wednesday 25 May.
