The first Graduate Research Symposium this academic year for students in Birkbeck’s Department of History, Classics and Archaeology is scheduled for Tuesday 8 December. Graduate students are encouraged to present their work in progress: this might be a chapter from your thesis, or a presentation for a conference. All are encouraged to attend and discover more about the research being produced in the department.
The time allotted to presenters is approximately 20 minutes, followed by 10-15 minutes for questions and discussion at the end of each panel of 2-3 papers. Powerpoint facilities will be available for use if needed; and tea,coffee and biscuits will be provided.
Students have found these events a very helpful and encouraging environment in which to present, and presentations at this event count towards upgrade requirements. The day represents an excellent opportunity for students to gain experience delivering a paper and to receive feedback in a relaxed and supportive setting.
For students who are not presenting, the day is informative and useful in developing your own ideas and approaches, so hopefully many of you will be attending.
