To celebrate Black History Month 2015, Birkbeck is running a series of free films and talks throughout October. Themed ‘Civilised Cinema: The Fight for Equal Rights on Screen’, the film festival commemorates significant historical human rights events, including 50 years since the passing of the British Race Relations Act, voting rights in the US, and 25 years since the release of Nelson Mandela. The festival has been organised in collaboration with The New Black Film Collective.
Screenings include: Selma, Dear White People, The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution, Nzinga: Queen of Angola
