Graduate Research Symposium: Key Dates 2015-16

The Graduate Research Symposium is for all research students in Birkbeck’s Department of History, Classics and Archaeology. Graduate students are invited to present their work in progress (this might be a chapter from your thesis, or a presentation for a conference), and all are welcome and encouraged  to attend and discover more about the research being produced in the department.

Students have found these events a helpful and encouraging environment in which to present. The Symposium presents an excellent opportunity for students to gain experience delivering a paper and engage in discussion about their work in a relaxed and supportive setting. Papers given at this symposium count towards requirements for upgrade.

The time allotted to presenters is up to 20 minutes, followed by 10-15 minutes for questions and discussion at the end of each session of 2-3 papers. Proposals for panels are also encouraged. PowerPoint facilities will be available for use if needed and free tea, coffee and snacks will be provided.

For students who are not presenting the day is informative and useful in developing your own ideas and approaches for future presentations, as well as hearing about interesting research, so hopefully many of you will be attend.
