Professor Mary Vincent on ‘Holy Week in Franco’s Spain: penitence and celebration in a national-Catholic state’
The next Research Student Seminar is on Friday 8th May, 1.30pm – 3pm and features Professor Mary Vincent of Sheffield University speaking on ‘Holy Week in Franco’s Spain: penitence and celebration in a national-Catholic state’.
Please note that the time of this seminar is different from the normal time. The seminar will be in the Dreyfus Room, Room 202, 28 Russell Square, and tea and coffee will be provided.
Professor Vincent is Professor of Modern History and Head of Department at Sheffield University. She is currently working on a history of the nature of Franco’s ‘crusade’ in Spain. She is particularly interested in the history of political and religious violence in Spain, and issues around experience and memory. She has published widely on Spanish history.
Please come along! The research student seminars are open to all PhD / research MA students in the HCA department and they are a valuable opportunity to hear from scholars from outside Birkbeck about their work. We hope that research students will attend not just sessions which are directly relevant to their research, but will appreciate the value of hearing about and discussing scholarship and historical perspectives relating to a range of approaches and topics.
