birkbeck_methodology_2Date: 10 July 2014
Time: 5-7pm
Venue: Dreyfus Room (2.02) in 28 Russell Square
Booking: via email (see below)

Following the very successful historical materialism workshop with Dr Lee Jones last month, we have now come to the second of the series. On 10 July, Professor Ludmilla Jordanova (Durham) will lead a workshop on Evidence, Example, Argument.

Professor Jordanova specialises in the history of science and medicine, portraiture, gender, the practice of history and public history, and will discuss how to use examples in historical research. Participants will be required to read a short extract from Professor Jordanova’s The Look of the Past (Cambridge University Press, 2012) – pages 217-224, plus colour plates XXVII-XXXIII and XXXV – and be prepared to discuss how they use examples in their own work.

There is one copy of The Look of the Past at the IHR library, but we have a PDF copy of the relevant pages to distribute to those who would prefer.

Participation is open to all Birkbeck history research students: please note the earlier-than-usual start (at 5pm), and please let Emma ( or Barbara ( if you’d like to reserve a place.
