New: modern European history reading group at Birkbeck

Join us on Monday 13 January  for the first session of a new modern European history reading group for Birkbeck PhD students. The group will discuss Carl E. Schorske’s Fin-de-Siecle Vienna: Politics and Culture (London: Weidenfeld and Nicolson, 1980), a seminal work of modern European intellectual and cultural history which explores the links between politics, modernism, psychoanalysis and art in pre-war Vienna.

The group will start at 6pm in room 501, 30 Russell Square, and will be followed by drinks at a local pub. We would be delighted to have as many people there as possible and all students are welcome, as are any suggestions for future readings. The book is available both in the Birkbeck and Senate House libraries.

If you’d like to attend, please email Dave Bryan (dbryan03@mail.bbk.ac.uk) so we can keep track of numbers.
