Birkbeck Gender & Sexuality reading group

BiGS – a forum for innovative interdisciplinary collaboration and exchange in gender and sexuality studies, and part of the Birkbeck Institute for Social Research – has just announced the dates for the spring term’s postgraduate reading group:

Monday 28 January, 6.30-8pm (room 352, Malet Street)
Monday 25 Febuary 6.30-8pm (room tbc)
Monday 18 March 6.30-8pm (room tbc)

This term, the group will be exploring the topic of sex work, and the readings for the first session – on 28 January – are:

Eva Pendleton ‘Love for Sale: Queering Heterosexuality’ in Jill Nagle’s Whores and Other Feminists (1997);
Teela Sanders ‘The Sociology of Sex Work’ in Teela Sanders, Maggie O’Neill & Jane Pitcher’s Prostitution: Sex Work, Policy and Practice (2009);
Julia O’Connell Davidson ‘Will the Real Sex Slave Please Stand Up?’ Feminist Review No. 83, Sexual Moralities (2006), pp. 4-22.
