PhD Studentships announced: deadline 15 Feb!

The Department of History, Classics and Archaeology at Birkbeck has invited applications for three fully-funded PhD Studentships, commencing 1 October 2013.

Two of these are HCA studentships, which come from a generous alumnus donation. These two awards will cover fees at Home/EU levels, and a maintenance grant in line with AHRC rates for the duration of three years (full-time students only). Applications from non-UK/EU nationals will be considered, but any such applicant would have to cover the differential between Home/EU and non-Home/EU student fees.

The Department will also award one AHRC studentship, normally consisting of fees and maintenance at the normal research council rate for three years (full-time) or five years (part-time). This AHRC Award is available to Home and EU students. It is not open to international students.

How to apply: All applicants for the fully-funded PhD Studentships have to submit a studentship application form and equal opportunities form to the assistant school manager Jane Halstead (j.halstead@bbk.ac.uk). The deadline for all applications is 15 February 2013. Any technical enquiries can be directed to Jana Kakosova (j.kakosova@bbk.ac.uk), the Research Student Administrator for the department.

Applicants will normally have completed, or be about to complete, a Masters in history or a related discipline, with an achieved or predicted grade of Distinction; and have gained a First-class BA honours degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject.

Although most visitors to birkbeckhistoryphd.org are already enrolled, those that are not will need to complete a postgraduate application form to gain a place on the MPhil/PhD programme of the Birkbeck Department of History, Classics and Archaeology, either before (strongly encouraged) or at the same time as applying for the studentships. All prospective applicants are strongly advised to first make informal contact with a potential supervisor before submitting their application.
